August 2008 Challenge Entry – Soy Candle Handcrafted Ceramic – Key Lime Scent by MadHattersPottery

leave a comment »

EFC August Challenge Theme – Hot, Hot, Hot

This pot is glazed in a fun splash of oranges, golden-yellows and lime green on a background of speckled sand. It is filled with Key Lime fragrance, an energizing balance of zesty, tart, and sweet notes that are true to its name. Measures 2 inches high by 5 inches wide at its widest points.

All my pottery is handmade of earthenware clay, thrown on the wheel or hand built and embellished or textured, glazed and fired in my studio. All pieces are totally unique and one of a kind.

My artisan quality, highly scented candles are made from 100% soy wax and hand poured, one at a time. Candles made from soy wax are a sustainable alternative to paraffin candles (paraffin being a petroleum-based product.) A cleaner burn, a cleaner world. Little by little, one light at a time.

Gift wrapping is available. Please inquire.

Notes from the artist :
Keep a piece of summer nearby throughout the year. Glazed in crisp ocean blues and deep greens, this handcrafted pot is filled with the fragrance of Awapuhi Seaberry, a hint of floral, melon and berries floating on top of a fresh tropical ocean breeze.

The essence of summer memories in one little pot.

Notes from the artist :

I hunted down the fabric for this quilt on a Quilt Shop Tour around Minnesota and Wisconsin. It was a fun trip. The Alexander Henery large cowboy print I bought on Etsy!

It was so much fun creating this hip western quilt. Thanks for checking it out. 🙂

Notes from the artist :
This is a sachet bag I crocheted. You can fill it with your favorite scent. This little bag would make a nice gift and could become an heirloom. I know I love to collect old crocheted items.

It has a drawstring closure and there is a loop on the inside if you want to hang it up.

The sachet bag is approx. 3 x 3 inches.

It is made by me, in my pet-free and smoke-free home.

Notes from the artist :
I made this little dress out of some of my collage paper. It has collage paper that has been machine stitched onto some of my handmade paper. I hand stitched some buttons down the front and then added fibers to the top.

You could use it as a bookmark, on a card, in a scrapbook or as a tag. It is approx. 5 x 2 inches.

Notes from the artist :
Set of three (3) approximately 4 inch by 5 inch note cards with envelopes featuring Cotton the cat. These note cards are blank on the inside except of the very top left corner in which information about the photo is printed in light gray.

These are great little notecards for ANY kind of correspondence! They make great gifts for cat lovers too!

Cotton is a white-haired, blue-eyed cat. He is believed to be a Turkish Angora, but since he was rescued from a shelter, that is not certain. Like most Turkish Angoras, he is extremely intelligent, very playful and loves water. Unlike most Turkish Angoras, he is completely deaf. He also has a heart condition that requires medication twice a day, not that anyone would ever know he has a heart problem with all the running around he does!

He loves boxes as much as the next cat, but he ESPECIALLY loves his bucket! He climbs into the bucket and spins round and round before he goes to sleep and I can’t help but think that bucket is a “bucket full of love!”

As with every cat photograph, 50% of the proceeds from this photograph will be donated to the shelter from which that cat was adopted. In Cotton’s case, that shelter is Save a Pet in Grayslake, IL.

July 2008 Challenge Entry – Brighten Up Your Shopping Day Tote Bag by SherryReneeW

leave a comment »

I made a tote bag to Brighten Up your shopping day! I am trying to “Go Green” and I thought making and using tote bags instead of plastic could be my small way of contributing to the enviroment.

I’m throwing in FOR FREE a bag that I made out of recycled plastic bags. Check out this link on plastic and it may make you think about the use of plastic too! http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080506/MULTIMEDIA02/80505016

I made the plastic bag by fusing together plastic bags and then sewing the strips together to make a stronger and resuseable tote bag.

The bright fabric on the tote bag is machine quilted to a piece of white flannel and then is lined with a piece of black fabric. All seams are tripled stitched except for the handle which is stitched a ton of times for extra security. I have put a piece of elastic at the top of the bag and sewn a button on in case you want to close it up.

All items come from a smoke and pet free home!

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Notes from the artist :
Original painting of three hearts on separate canvases. Original poem that spans all three canvases hand painted on each canvas, including sides. Copy of full length poem included with piece.

This piece is a part of my “Love Letters” series which was inspired in part by some poetry I had written and in part by my wanting to explore new techniques and colors.
